First Frost Arts & Fine Crafts Fair fills Flint’s Cultural Center Academy Oct. 24–25 with handmade gifts, a Festival of Trees and $5 admission
FLINT, Mich. — Holiday shopping gets an early start in Flint this weekend as the First Frost Arts & Fine Crafts Fair returns to the Flint Cultural Center Academy on Saturday and Sunday, Oct. 24–25.
The Flint Institute of Arts and its Founders Society present the fair at the academy, 1200 Robert T. Longway Blvd., a block from the museum. Hours are 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday and 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, according to the FIA.
Cost. General admission is $5. Children 12 and under get in free.
What’s for sale. New and returning selected artists will show handmade work in fiber, wood, metal, clay, glass and mixed media, which the FIA pitches as “giftable” art for the start of the holiday season.
Festival of Trees and more. Shoppers can also take home a one-of-a-kind decorated tree made by local designers and florists, bid in a silent auction on work by First Frost artists and stock up on homemade baked goods.
Make a day of it. The museum itself, at 1120 E. Kearsley St., is free for FIA members and Genesee County residents; other adults pay $10. The FIA notes that it is supported in part by the county’s Arts Education and Cultural Enrichment Millage. For the rest of the weekend, including “Dracula” at the Capitol and Halloween pops at the Whiting, see our things to do in Flint Oct. 23–25.

Flint voters decide whether to renew the city’s police and fire tax, plus transit and parks levies, at slightly lower rates
None of the three renewals is a tax increase. The largest, a 5.9568-mill public safety levy, would raise about $6.53 million a year, and Headlee rollbacks trimmed every rate after property values outpaced inflation.
