ALLENDALE, Mich. — Grand Valley State gets the toughest test in Division II football on Saturday, when top-ranked Ferris State comes to Lubbers Stadium for the Anchor-Bone Classic at 3 p.m.

The game is sold out, GVSU said, and tickets have been gone since Wednesday, according to D2Football.com. It will be televised on WXSP-TV (Channel 15) in Grand Rapids and streamed on FloCollege and Amazon Prime. A pregame show runs from 10 a.m. to noon near the Ravine Center.

The No. 13 Lakers are 5-1 overall and 1-1 in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference after a 41-35 overtime loss at Michigan Tech last Saturday. Ferris State, the defending national champion, is 6-0 and 2-0 and has won 36 straight games. The Bulldogs have not lost since August 2024, D2Football.com noted.

Ferris has been close to untouchable on defense. Since a 14-point win at Central Washington on Sept. 12, it has allowed six points total, all in a 73-6 win over Kentucky Christian. It opened league play with shutouts of Northern Michigan, 42-0, and Saginaw Valley State, 55-0. The Bulldogs average 301 rushing yards and 252 passing yards a game. Quarterback Wyatt Bower has thrown for 1,086 yards and seven touchdowns and leads the team with 371 rushing yards and eight rushing scores, according to D2Football.com.

D2Football.com called Grand Valley the most dangerous offense Ferris will have faced this season. The Lakers score 52.3 points a game, second in the country, and sophomore quarterback Andrew Schuster has thrown 20 touchdown passes with one interception. His passer rating of 200.8 ranks third nationally. Senior receiver Kellen Reed has 44 catches for 835 yards and 15 touchdowns, and he has topped 100 receiving yards in all six games, GVSU said. He leads Division II in receiving yards per game and receiving touchdowns.

The Lakers’ defense ranks second nationally, allowing 223.3 yards a game, according to the school.

Grand Valley leads the all-time series 32-25-1, and the teams have split the last six meetings, 3-3. Saturday will be the 15th straight meeting in which both teams are ranked, GVSU said. Coach Scott Wooster is 34-8 in his fourth season.
