Zeeland West shuts out Unity Christian 36-0 in an OK Gold meeting
HUDSONVILLE, Mich. — Unity Christian has scored more than 50 points in each of its last two games. On Friday night, Oct. 9, it met a Zeeland West defense that had given up 81 points in six games.
The Crusaders (4-2, 2-1 Ottawa-Kent Conference Gold) hosted the Dux (5-1, 2-1) in Hudsonville. Both are 2-1 in the division, and MaxPreps standings list Zeeland West second and Unity Christian fourth.
Unity Christian’s offense has carried it since a 34-33 home loss to South Christian on Sept. 18. It beat University Prep Science and Math 56-6 and then outlasted Forest Hills Central 51-37 last Friday. Through six games it has scored 271 points, about 45 a game, and allowed 185, MaxPreps records show.
Zeeland West has won with defense. Its lone loss also came against South Christian, 19-16 on the road on Sept. 25. It has beaten Wyoming 54-8 and Zeeland East 48-14, and it opened the season with wins over Cedar Springs, 46-20, and Midland, 50-20.
Zeeland East is the clearest measure the two teams share. Unity Christian won there 50-22 on Sept. 11; Zeeland West beat the Chix by 34 points last week.
The Dux are 4-0 at home and 1-1 away. Unity Christian is 3-1 at home, with its only loss there the one-point game against South Christian.
Both teams close the regular season with two games after this one. Unity Christian plays at Wyoming on Oct. 16 and at Portland on Oct. 23. Zeeland West hosts Forest Hills Central, a team Unity Christian has already beaten, on Oct. 16 and visits Spring Lake on Oct. 23.
Also that Friday, Jenison played at Hudsonville.
