Rochester beats Troy Athens 34-14 on Senior Week
TROY, Mich. — Troy Athens went to Rochester on Friday, Oct. 9, for a game between two teams sitting 2-1 behind the champion in the Oakland Activities Association’s White Division.
Stoney Creek clinched the title last week by beating Rochester 41-14, The Oakland Press reported, and the Cougars had already handled Athens 49-10 on Sept. 25.
Athens was 2-4 overall after opening against Mott, Oxford and Clarkston and losing all three, according to MaxPreps. Since then the Red Hawks have gone 2-1, beating Troy High 35-0 in the crosstown game on Sept. 18 and Bloomfield Hills 53-14 last Friday, with the Stoney Creek loss in between.
Rochester was 3-3 and 2-1. Against Stoney Creek, quarterback Matt Dyki threw to Callen Sieber and Nate Tandy to set up the Falcons’ first touchdown and ran for their second, the Oakland Press reported, but the Cougars piled up 338 rushing yards.
Falcons coach Erik Vernon told the paper his team was not physical enough up front and said Athens, which played a tough early schedule, is a good team. It was Senior Week at Rochester, he said, and he hoped his players would bring energy to it.
For Rochester, it was the last division game before an OAA crossover and a nonleague trip to Monroe, the Oakland Press reported, and the Falcons were chasing a playoff berth. Athens hosts Berkley on Oct. 23, according to its MaxPreps schedule. The game was listed for streaming on the NFHS Network.
