Troy High edges Troy Athens in five sets, winning the last one 16-14 and handing the Red Hawks their first league loss

TROY, Mich. — Troy High won Thursday night’s crosstown volleyball match at Troy Athens 3-2, taking the deciding fifth set 16-14, according to results posted to MaxPreps.

The set scores were 17-25, 27-25, 29-31, 25-20 and 16-14. Three of the five sets were decided by two points. Added together, Athens outscored Troy 115-114, but the Colts won the sets that counted.

It was the Red Hawks’ first league loss, leaving them 6-1 in league play and 13-8 overall, MaxPreps shows. The site lists Troy at 13-15 and says the Colts have won nine of their last 11.

The records on the schools’ own athletics sites differ because those sites leave out several tournament and road results. Troy’s site lists the Colts 7-0 in the matches it has posted.

Troy, in its first season under head coach Scott Germansky, hosts Franklin at 7 p.m. Thursday, Oct. 22, then a home quad with OLSM, Adams and Lakeland on Oct. 27, its schedule shows. The Colts’ schedule lists Troy High as a district host the week of Nov. 2.

Athens plays at St. Mary’s Prep at 7 p.m. Tuesday, according to MaxPreps.

A replay of Thursday’s match is available on the NFHS Network, MaxPreps said.
