Troy Athens visits Avondale Friday, and winless Troy High meets winless Pontiac

TROY, Mich. — Troy’s two public high school football teams play crossover games on the road Friday night. Troy Athens (2-5) visits Auburn Hills Avondale (3-4), and Troy High (0-7) goes to Pontiac (0-7) in a game that will end somebody’s losing streak. Both kick off at 7 p.m., according to MaxPreps schedules.

Athens comes off a 34-14 loss at Rochester, the senior-night trip The Mitten Daily previewed last week. The Red Hawks are 2-2 in the OAA White, with league wins over Troy, 35-0 on Sept. 18, and Bloomfield Hills, 53-14 on Oct. 2. Their other losses came against Mott, Oxford, Clarkston and Stoney Creek, and they have scored 148 points and allowed 214, MaxPreps results show.

Avondale is 3-2 in the OAA Gold. The Yellowjackets beat Pontiac 40-0, Royal Oak 24-20 and Kettering 21-19, but lost 74-0 at Ferndale and fell 25-18 in overtime to Berkley last Friday, according to MaxPreps. They have been outscored 221-132.

Troy High has struggled to score all season. The Colts have 68 points in seven games and have allowed 266. Their 54-28 loss at Bloomfield Hills last Friday, a game The Mitten Daily previewed, was their highest-scoring night, MaxPreps results show. Their closest game was a 13-6 opening loss to Grosse Pointe North.

Pontiac has scored 18 points all season and has been shut out five times, including a 44-0 loss at Kettering last Friday. The Phoenix have allowed 284 points, according to MaxPreps. Avondale, Athens’ opponent Friday, beat Pontiac 40-0 on Sept. 11.

Both Troy schools finish the regular season at home Oct. 23. Athens hosts Berkley and Troy hosts Mott, according to their schedules. Avondale hosts Swartz Creek that night, and Pontiac travels to Brandon.
