Warren Fitzgerald shuts out Cousino 28-0 for its fourth straight win and moves to 6-2
WARREN, Mich. — Fitzgerald beat Cousino 28-0 on Friday night at Cousino High School, extending the Spartans’ winning streak to four games in a matchup of two Warren high schools.
The final was reported by MaxPreps and by The Oakland Press in its Week 8 scoreboard for the Macomb Area Conference. Fitzgerald improved to 6-2. Cousino fell to 1-7.
It was Fitzgerald’s fourth shutout of the season. According to results posted by the Macomb Area Conference, the Spartans also blanked Warren Mott 56-0 in their Aug. 27 opener, Fraser 41-0 on Sept. 3 and Sterling Heights on Sept. 25.
The streak began with that Sterling Heights win. Fitzgerald followed it with a 12-6 home win over St. Clair Shores Lake Shore on Oct. 2 and a 32-24 home win over Madison Heights Lamphere on Oct. 9, MaxPreps shows.
For Cousino, the loss was its fifth straight at home dating to last season, MaxPreps said. The Patriots have been shut out three times, by Grosse Pointe North 38-0 on Sept. 3, by L’Anse Creuse North 42-0 on Sept. 25 and now by Fitzgerald, the conference results show. Their lone win was a 10-6 decision at Utica Ford on Oct. 2.
Neither MaxPreps nor the conference had posted individual statistics by early Sunday.
Next: Both teams play on the road at 7 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, Fitzgerald at Roseville and Cousino at Lake Shore, according to MaxPreps. The conference schedule lists Sunday, Oct. 25, as Selection Sunday for the state playoffs.
