Halloween falls on a Saturday in 2026, which stretches Michigan’s October calendar across two more full weekends of zoo trick-or-treats and pumpkin walks before Oct. 31. This guide groups the biggest dated events by region: gentle stops for toddlers, free city celebrations, corn mazes and haunts for teens and adults.

Every date, hour and price below was checked on the organizer’s own page on Oct. 14, 2026, unless we say otherwise. Popular nights sell out and weather can close outdoor events — check each listing again before you drive.

Quick picks

  • Youngest kids: Zoo Boo at the Saginaw Children’s Zoo, Troy Historic Village’s ocean-themed trick-or-treat or Ann Arbor’s candy-free Animal Haunts.
  • Big family nights: Zoo Boo at the Detroit Zoo, Hallowe’en in Greenfield Village (dining packages only now) and Crossroads Village near Flint.
  • Free: ScareFest at Detroit’s Palmer Park, Kalamazoo’s Halloween Forest, Muskegon’s hay bale trail and Lansing’s Trick or Treat on the Square.
  • Real scares: Erebus in Pontiac, The Haunt in Wyoming and the Edson Incident aboard a destroyer in Bay City.

Haunted houses: before you buy

Erebus (Pontiac). The four-story attraction at 18 S. Perry St. describes itself as an indoor walk of more than half a mile. Its 2026 season announcement lists openings Thursday through Sunday this week (Oct. 15–18), then every night from Oct. 20 through Nov. 1, plus Nov. 6 and 7, with timed tickets sold by date. Erebus warns of strobe lights, fog, moving floors and wet conditions, and it tells guests who are pregnant or have heart conditions, asthma, claustrophobia or other medical issues not to enter.

Weekend nights closest to Halloween are the busiest. The Haunt says it gets hot indoors and bans bags, food and drinks; check each haunt’s age guidance before bringing children.

Halloween night: Saturday, Oct. 31

Trick-or-treat hours are set by each city, village and township, and many post them only in the final week of October. In Detroit, the city has already posted its trunk-or-treat list, with most sites running between 4 and 8 p.m. Also open on Halloween: John Ball Zoo’s Zoo Goes Boo by day, and the Edson Incident, The Haunt, Erebus and Rasch’s haunted maze after dark.

Tips

  • Buy ahead. Greenfield Village’s general admission is already gone, Crossroads Village’s trains sell out and Animal Haunts requires advance registration.
  • Match the scare level to the youngest in your group. Troy Historic Village, the Saginaw Children’s Zoo, Animal Haunts and Jack O’ Lanterns Unleashed all advertise friendly, no-fright events.
  • Food allergies. Look for teal pumpkins or allergen-friendly stations at the Detroit Zoo, John Ball Zoo, Potter Park Zoo and Troy Historic Village.
  • Costume rules. The Detroit Zoo bars full-face animal masks and costume weapons; Greenfield Village bans swords and other weapons, real or pretend.
  • Weather. Greenfield Village and Troy run rain or shine. Rasch’s haunted maze depends on the weather, and the Mason pumpkin walk can close for high winds or lightning, with tickets good another night.
